![]() If not on GOG then direct from the Devs themselves. Shame some games are Steam only, I'd much prefer Elder Scrolls and Fallout on GOG, XCOM as well. So for modding any game, GOG is best and you get the installer on your system and can easily back up the game. It's not exactly exhaustive testing, but I've just loaded Clear Skies using maxed settings and DX10 with no crashes after 20 mins of testing. ![]() When things go wrong with modding a GOG game, I know It's my mistake and not down to the game being on GOG. The GOG versions just ran from the start, I modded them without any issues. I could never get the modded games to run consistantly, after many days of trying. Steam just sell the games in that state, sometimes unplayable on a modern PC. I bought Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 on Steam and only managed to get the base games to run, after much effort and help from other Steam users. These three key factors make GOG my first choice for mods. GOG will always try to get it working for you, personally, if you have issues and always had a 30 day guarantee policy, if they somehow can't. As with all PC games, someone will always still have issues, that's just due to how PC's are made of different Hardware/Software. Using separate GOGGame.DLL's to avoid mod changing alterations. GOG has always updated the game, if required, to get old games to run on modern hardware and OS's like Windows 7 and above. Now you can at least get a refund, if it doesn't run on your system, thanks to the EU courts. Steam sells you the Game, in whatever condition it's in. This ones about the older games, GOG's original purpose. If you use GOG Galaxy, you can turn Auto updates on or off for each game, a much better situation for modded games, GOG Galaxy is optional as well. The only remedy is to always run Steam in offline mode, not really ideal or viable to buying games. This is more of an issue with new games, but sometimes old ones get updated also. GOG versions have no DRM to cause possible issues for mods. This is sometimes true on Steam as well, but you are often unsure, even if Steamworks isn't used, the game can have another DRM that causes issues. Mostly common sense ones, but worth pointing out with the issues posted after Video 2 of the Let's Play, for anyone thinking about which is best. I don't know about Stalker specifically, but there are reasons why all GOG games are generally better for modsding than Steam. Responses may have been given, but on the VOD it wasn't apparent and Gopher asked 2 or 3 times why? I only saw the VOD and Gopher was asking why, a reasonable question. In Gophers pre Stalker Modding stream and on the Let's Play You Tube comments people have said GOG versions of Stalker are better for Modding.
